#891. God can do immeasurably more - Ephesians 3:20 (5/9/23)

‘Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20)

Lesson: Faith in God’s immeasurable power leads to drawing on His limitless resources in prayer.


Let faith in God’s power lead us to prayer

Paul had big faith. How did He get this? It came to Him through immersion in God’s word and time with the Spirit.

He was convinced that God could do immeasurable things. Paul had the sort of faith that trusted that God could move mountains!

I’m sure that we all have lots of things that feel too immeasurable for us! May God lead us to a place of believing in His immeasurable power!

However, this understanding didn’t lead to passivity. Those who understand the great power of God will pray and as they do so, their faith grows as they exercise their faith through prayer. Paul could say, in response to His faith in God’s power:

“For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.” (Ephesians 3:14-15)

God’s immeasurable power gives us knowledge of God

What are the immeasurable things that God can do for us through our prayers? Firstly, we can know, experience and be strengthened by Him:

“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,” (Ephesians 3:16)

If we feel weak or we know others who are struggling, pray to the God who can impart His immeasurable power.


God’s immeasurable power leads to good works

Surely, included in the immeasurable things that God can do according to his power at work in us are the many good works that He wants to lead us into. God has ministry for us to do in our communities. If we are prayerful, we will surely be astounded and what God can achieve through ordinary people like us. Imagine what God could do through a church that truly did not put limits upon Him!


God’s immeasurable power leads to transformation

Finally, the power of the Spirit is making us more like Christ. Ultimately, at Jesus’ return, we will be completely restored and perfect. This is our ultimate hope and is dependent upon the power of God at work in us. What we will be is immeasurable more than we can hope or imagine as we are restored to the image of God!


RESPONSE

Faith in God’s immeasurable power leads to drawing on His limitless resources in prayer. Let’s trust in the power of God. Let’s allow our faith to be raised for great things. However, let’s ensure that our faith and excitement turn us to humble prayer which unleashes the power of God for immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.

 

Together in September

In September, we are having two Together Evenings, on Wednesday the 6th and Wednesday the 13th from 7p.m. (When there will be a light meal provided).

We will be using this time to come together for worship, teaching and prayer with a view to re-launching community groups afterwards.
