Who are we to give to? In short, we are to give to needs that are of concern to God as we are led by the Spirit.

Giving becomes worthless when it is not done for the Father.

True righteousness - that which pleases and is rewarded by God - is motivated by love for the Father.

Generosity flows out of those who Know the Father.

There is a great blessing for us, as for them, as we respond to God in obedience,

Surely perfection is beyond any of us!

‘Many have learned how to offer the other cheek, but do not know how to love him by whom they were struck.’

This week we are looking at Jesus’ teaching regarding love.

You and I will only be able to live out this vision of Kingdom generosity if we are rooted in a community.

Does this mean that we are to give any and all our possessions away to anyone who asks for anything?

For most of us, our word is more or less binding depending on the context. This should not be!

God makes very clear the relationship between love and our words.

We can only give out what we’ve put in! Let’s be ‘carefully instructed’ so we can use our words for the good of others.

Christians are to ‘fulfil’, ‘teach’ and ‘practice’ what the Old Testament teaches. This has great bearing on our use of words.

This week we see that Jesus wants to teach us how to use our words.

When we disobey Jesus, our lives become hellish.

Impurity has a price tag, but so too does purity. Anything of worth is costly.

Sin lies to us. It’s like the drug pusher that says to us, “This won’t cost anything. It will you feel amazing…”
