Welcome to this Come to Jesus Daily Devotional where we are continuing in our Wisdom for Life series from Proverbs.

Today, from Proverbs 2:6-8, we see that our best protection is found in walking in God’s wisdom.

‘For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.’ (Proverbs 2:6-8)

i. The Lord gives wisdom

It’s wonderful and releasing to know that ‘the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding’. It’s so good to know that our growth in true knowledge of God and wisdom is not dependent upon our intellectual capacity! This is a very important truth because if we believe that we can’t grow in understanding that, in some way, we don’t have the ability for such things then we won’t even try to search and study God’s Word. We all tend to avoid things that we believe we’re going to fail at. So, today, let’s replace faith in our limitations with faith in God’s promise, by the Spirit, to help us to grow in true wisdom as we study His Word. As Bruce Waltke writes,

‘Nevertheless, though the son searches for wisdom, he does not grasp it, but the LORD bestows it.’

This is about ’special revelation’; whether of Salvation through the wisdom of the cross or how to live in order to please God, all true, spiritual wisdom, is the gift of God.

ii. He guards the course of the faithful

Along with the inspiring promise that He will teach us, is the promise that He will, as we pursue wisdom, give us ‘success’ and ‘protection’.

Here, I simply want us to see that the success and protection that God gives to us come as the result of walking in His wisdom. If we will listen to Him, we will be protected from the various chaotic and bankrupting results that attend foolishness. Oftentimes, the success and protection of God come to us simply by us making good decisions rather than bad ones!

Our best protection is found in walking in God’s wisdom.

Let’s pray together:

“Holy Spirit, please teach me true wisdom. As I read your word or hear it taught, give me a right heart and the capacity to understand your will. Please protect me and give me success as I walk with you. Please protect and give success to my church family as she walks with you. Amen.”

Community Group Notes

1. Notices

It might be good to begin with notices. Please share from this week’s Church News.

2. Icebreaker

How has God been speaking to you from His Word this week, and how has this helped you?

3. Worship together

Let’s begin our time together by lifting our eyes and hearts to worship our great God. Perhaps you have readings and songs that you would like to use together. Let’s be open to the gifts that the Spirit wants to give in order to encourage one another.

4. Study and pray together

Balanced Time Allocation - Please ensure a balanced focus on discussion, SIV (Serve, Invest, and Invite), and prayer so that each section is meaningful and fruitful.

Week #2. Proverbs 1:20–2:8 — Wisdom calls to us, so how will we respond?

1. What themes stand out in this week’s section? Identify key ideas and repeated patterns. What is the focus of this section?

2. What promises does God offer, and what warnings does He give? Look for specific encouragements, blessings, or cautions in the text.

3. How does this speak into our lives today? What are the practical ways we could live this out — individually, in our families, in our community?

4. How is God calling you to respond? Consider what this means for your heart, your choices, and your direction.

5. SIV (Serve, Invest, and Invite)

  • How might the wisdom in this week's section of Proverbs help us to be a light for Jesus?

  • Have you had any recent opportunities to Serve, Invest in, or Invite someone toward Jesus? Let’s encourage one another by sharing testimonies of God at work through us.

6. Let’s pray together:

  • Let’s pray for one another based on our study, and bring before God any other needs or requests for prayer.

  • Pray for one another's SIV opportunities and boldness in following the Spirit's promptings.

  • Pray specifically for the 'people of peace' in our lives—asking God to open hearts and provide opportunities to speak life and truth.
