Welcome to this Come to Jesus Daily Devotional where we are continuing in our Wisdom for Life series from Proverbs.

Today, from Proverbs 10:22-25, we are reminded that trusting in the Lord, rather than fear and scheming, is the foundation for wealth and security.

i. The Lord’s blessing brings wealth

‘The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.’ (Proverbs 10:22)

Whilst understanding the place of wise, hard work, this proverb reminds us that real provision and security come from God’s hand, not from anxious striving. While work is good and right, it’s the Lord’s blessing that ultimately sustains us. Effort without God’s favour leads to weariness, but His blessing adds what toil alone cannot.

ii. The Righteous don’t need to scheme because they know God

‘A fool finds pleasure in wicked schemes, but a person of understanding delights in wisdom.’ (Proverbs 10:23)

If one truly understands what we read in the previous proverb, that ‘‘The blessing of the Lord brings wealth…’ We will be kept from ‘wicked schemes’. The wicked scheme because they don’t know God’s love or His judgment! The wise, however, ‘delight in wisdom’ because they know that walking in God’s ways is joyful and fruitful.

iii. The righteous stand through the storm

‘What the wicked dread will overtake them; what the righteous desire will be granted. When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.’ (Proverbs 10:24-25)

Here we see the contrast between those who trust in themselves and those who trust in God. The wicked live in fear because their hopes are unstable because they don’t know God. The previous parable marks the wicked as ‘scheming’ because they must rely on themselves; likewise, here, the unrighteous are marked as fearful because they don’t know God. The righteous, however, are promised that they will stand firm because their confidence is rooted in God’s faithfulness. When life’s storms come, only those built on His promises endure.

Trusting in the Lord, rather than fear and scheming, is the foundation for wealth and security. In our financial needs, in our fears, will we scheme, or will we trust God in prayer and apply His wisdom?

Let’s pray together:

“Father, forgive me when I’ve failed to trust in you and put my trust in my schemes and plans. I give my fear to you. I choose to pray for your provision. I choose to trust in you through the storms of life. Amen”

Community Group Notes

1. Notices

It might be good to begin with notices. Please share from this week’s Church News.

2. Icebreaker

How has God been speaking to you from His Word this week, and how has this helped you?

3. Worship together

Let’s begin our time together by lifting our eyes and hearts to worship our great God. Perhaps you have readings and songs that you would like to use together. Let’s be open to the gifts that the Spirit wants to give in order to encourage one another.

4. Study and pray together

Balanced Time Allocation - Please ensure a balanced focus on discussion, SIV (Serve, Invest, and Invite), and prayer so that each section is meaningful and fruitful.

Week #12: Proverbs 10:15-10:32. The wise are fruitful.

1. What themes stand out in this week’s section? Identify key ideas and repeated patterns. What is the focus of this section?

2. What promises does God offer, and what warnings does He give? Look for specific encouragements, blessings, or cautions in the text.

3. How does this speak into our lives today? What are the practical ways we could live this out — individually, in our families, in our community?

4. How is God calling you to respond? Consider what this means for your heart, your choices, and your direction.

5. SIV (Serve, Invest, and Invite)

  • How might the wisdom in this week's section of Proverbs help us to be a light for Jesus?

  • Have you had any recent opportunities to Serve, Invest in, or Invite someone toward Jesus? Let’s encourage one another by sharing testimonies of God at work through us.

6. Let’s pray together:

  • Let’s pray for one another based on our study, and bring before God any other needs or requests for prayer.

  • Pray for one another's SIV opportunities and boldness in following the Spirit's promptings.

  • Pray specifically for the 'people of peace' in our lives—asking God to open hearts and provide opportunities to speak life and truth.
