‘My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favour and a good name in the sight of God and man.’ (Proverbs 3:1-4)
i. Do not forget
This section (Proverbs 3:1–12) opens with a fatherly exhortation: “Do not forget my teaching.” Repetition is necessary when it comes to things that matter — even professional musicians or athletes know the value of practising the basics. In the same way, we’re urged not just to hear God’s commands, but to remember and revisit them daily.
ii. Write them on your heart
We’re told to ‘keep my commands in your heart' and ‘write them on the tablet of your heart.’ This speaks of deep memorisation and internalisation. God’s Word isn’t meant to float at the surface of our minds — it should be part of us. Over the years, I’ve found scripture memory to be one of the most helpful habits for spiritual health.
How are you storing God’s Word in your heart? What verses are you carrying with you today?
iii. Love and faithfulness
We’re urged to let love and faithfulness be constant companions — bound around our necks, close to our identity. This means two things:
Remain in God’s love — don’t drift away from His grace.
Reflect God’s love and faithfulness — let these qualities mark your relationships and your decisions.
If we hold onto these virtues, we’ll enjoy the joy of God and become a source of joy to others.
iv. Then you will win favour and a good name
The result of remembering and doing God’s Word, and living in love and faithfulness, is this promise: “Then you will win favour and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
People are drawn to those who live with integrity and grace. While not everyone will respond with kindness, many will.
Most importantly, God always honours the person who treasures His Word and walks in His ways. So let’s do all we can to value and store God’s word in our hearts and minds.
Let’s pray together
“Father, may I remember your word in my mind and heart. May I do your word in love and faithfulness. May people honour you through the way that I live. Amen.”

Week #3: Proverbs 2:9-3:4. Remember and do my teachings.
1. What themes stand out in this week’s section? Identify key ideas and repeated patterns. What is the focus of this section?
2. What promises does God offer, and what warnings does He give? Look for specific encouragements, blessings, or cautions in the text.
3. How does this speak into our lives today? What are the practical ways we could live this out — individually, in our families, in our community?
4. How is God calling you to respond? Consider what this means for your heart, your choices, and your direction.
5. SIV (Serve, Invest, and Invite)
How might the wisdom in this week's section of Proverbs help us to be a light for Jesus?
Have you had any recent opportunities to Serve, Invest in, or Invite someone toward Jesus? Let’s encourage one another by sharing testimonies of God at work through us.
6. Let’s pray together:
Let’s pray for one another based on our study, and bring before God any other needs or requests for prayer.
Pray for one another's SIV opportunities and boldness in following the Spirit's promptings.
Pray specifically for the 'people of peace' in our lives—asking God to open hearts and provide opportunities to speak life and truth.
