Welcome to this Come to Jesus Daily Devotional where we are continuing in our Wisdom for Life series from Proverbs.

Today, we reflect on Proverbs 7:6-23, learning to recognise lies, so as to guard ourselves, but also to be grieved so as to pray and help those making foolish choices.

‘At the window of my house I looked down through the lattice. I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who had no sense. He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in. Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent. (She is unruly and defiant, her feet never stay at home; now in the street, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks.) She took hold of him and kissed him and with a brazen face she said: “Today I fulfilled my vows, and I have food from my fellowship offering at home. So I came out to meet you; I looked for you and have found you! I have covered my bed with coloured linens from Egypt. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon. Come, let’s drink deeply of love till morning; let’s enjoy ourselves with love! My husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey. He took his purse filled with money and will not be home till full moon.” With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk. All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose  till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.’ (Proverbs 7:6-23)

i. At the Window

When we look at the world around us, do we see through the lens of God's wisdom? Are we grieved by sin, as Lot was?

… Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)." (2 Peter 2:7-8)

Like Lot, we should feel sorrow when we see people trapped in sin or choosing foolish ways. But do we stop at sorrow, or do we intercede in prayer?

ii. Help the Senseless

How can we help those who are making destructive choices? Whether in relationships, work, health, or habits, God calls us to be messengers of wisdom.

This is not always easy—our advice may be rejected. But love takes risks. True love warns, protects, and speaks truth, even when it is uncomfortable.

With prayerful sorrow, how can we take action today? How can we be a voice of wisdom to those who need it?

iii. The Woman Folly is never at rest

Once again, foolishness is personified as a seductive woman seeking to derail us. This passage warns us about sexual sin, but its lesson extends further. Temptation comes in many forms, drawing us toward destructive choices.

Do we recognise how sin operates?

  • Sin looks attractive – “Dressed like a prostitute” (v.10). Sin presents itself as desirable, hiding its consequences.

  • Sin has crafty intent – “With crafty intent” (v.10). The enemy is deceptive, always scheming.

  • Sin never rests – “Her feet never stay at home” (v.11). Spiritual warfare is constant; we must always be on guard.

  • Sin distorts worship – “Today I fulfilled my vows” (v.14). The devil often disguises sin as something good, even spiritual.

  • Sin promises false worth – “I looked for you and have found you!” (v.15). Many turn to sin—whether through sex, addictions, materialism, or status—seeking value and love, only to find emptiness.

iv. Choose the Right Path

Rather than wandering into temptation, let’s choose the path of wisdom. Let’s also encourage others to do the same, warning them about sin’s deceptive nature.

Additionally, this passage gives practical wisdom: if we knowingly put ourselves in tempting situations, we are acting foolishly. If we have struggled with bad habits in the past, we should not deceive ourselves into thinking we can walk near the fire without being burned.

Let’s Pray Together:

"Father, keep me from the path of destruction. Fill me with self-control so as to choose Your ways. Give me wisdom and courage to guide others towards Your truth. Amen."

Community Group Notes

1. Notices

It might be good to begin with notices. Please share from this week’s Church News.

2. Icebreaker

How has God been speaking to you from His Word this week, and how has this helped you?

3. Worship together

Let’s begin our time together by lifting our eyes and hearts to worship our great God. Perhaps you have readings and songs that you would like to use together. Let’s be open to the gifts that the Spirit wants to give in order to encourage one another.

4. Study and pray together

Balanced Time Allocation - Please ensure a balanced focus on discussion, SIV (Serve, Invest, and Invite), and prayer so that each section is meaningful and fruitful.

Week #9: Proverbs 6:30-8:11. The Path of Wisdom vs. The Way of Folly.

1. What themes stand out in this week’s section? Identify key ideas and repeated patterns. What is the focus of this section?

2. What promises does God offer, and what warnings does He give? Look for specific encouragements, blessings, or cautions in the text.

3. How does this speak into our lives today? What are the practical ways we could live this out — individually, in our families, in our community?

4. How is God calling you to respond? Consider what this means for your heart, your choices, and your direction.

5. SIV (Serve, Invest, and Invite)

  • How might the wisdom in this week's section of Proverbs help us to be a light for Jesus?

  • Have you had any recent opportunities to Serve, Invest in, or Invite someone toward Jesus? Let’s encourage one another by sharing testimonies of God at work through us.

6. Let’s pray together:

  • Let’s pray for one another based on our study, and bring before God any other needs or requests for prayer.

  • Pray for one another's SIV opportunities and boldness in following the Spirit's promptings.

  • Pray specifically for the 'people of peace' in our lives—asking God to open hearts and provide opportunities to speak life and truth.
