Welcome to this Come to Jesus Daily Devotional where we are continuing in our Wisdom for Life series from Proverbs.
Today, from Proverbs 8:1-11, we reflect on how wisdom is revealed all around us and wants to be applied all around us.

‘Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? At the highest point along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; beside the gate leading into the city, at the entrance, she cries aloud: ‘To you, O people, I call out; I raise my voice to all humanity. You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, set your hearts on it. Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. To the discerning all of them are right; they are upright to those who have found knowledge. Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.’ (Proverbs 8:1-11)
i. How does wisdom call to us?
Again, wisdom is personified as a woman—this time in contrast to the seductive woman in Proverbs 7, who lures people into destruction (7:14-21). Unlike her, wisdom stands in public places where she is sure to be heard. She calls out, raises her voice, takes her stand, and cries aloud—doing all she can to draw us toward life-giving wisdom and away from folly.
Wisdom speaks in significant places:
The highest points – Places of influence
The crossroads – Moments of decision and in the business of life.
The city gates – The realm of business and justice
The city entrance – The domain of governance and authority
These locations highlight where wisdom is revealed, but they also challenge us to apply wisdom in every sphere of life. Our faith is not just for private prayer but for living in the power of the Holy Spirit, following Jesus—who embodied perfect wisdom.
ii. God’s voice of wisdom comes in many ways.
God is always speaking wisdom into our lives. How does He do this?
Creation – His wisdom is displayed in the order and beauty of the world.
The Holy Spirit – He convicts and brings understanding.
Scripture – His Word is the ultimate source of wisdom.
Life’s experiences – Even our failures can teach us wisdom if we are willing to learn.
If we struggle to hear wisdom, it’s not because wisdom is silent—it’s because maybe we aren’t paying attention!
iii. Do we truly value wisdom above all things?
Why should we desire wisdom? Proverbs 8:1-11 gives compelling reasons:
It gives prudence to the simple.
It speaks truth and righteousness.
It detests wickedness.
It is just and upright.
It is more valuable than silver, gold, or rubies.
When we recognise wisdom’s worth, we will pursue it above all else: “Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold.”
iv. Are We Listening?
God constantly communicates His wisdom. Are we attentive?
Do we hear Him in creation?
Do we listen to His Word?
Do we learn from the experiences of others?
Let’s Pray
“Father, teach me wisdom. Help me recognise Your voice in creation, Scripture, and life’s experiences. In my work, rest, and relationships, may I apply Your wisdom. Above all else, give me a heart that values wisdom as the path to true success. Amen.”
Community Group Notes
1. Notices
It might be good to begin with notices. Please share from this week’s Church News.
2. Icebreaker
How has God been speaking to you from His Word this week, and how has this helped you?
3. Worship together
Let’s begin our time together by lifting our eyes and hearts to worship our great God. Perhaps you have readings and songs that you would like to use together. Let’s be open to the gifts that the Spirit wants to give in order to encourage one another.
4. Study and pray together
Balanced Time Allocation - Please ensure a balanced focus on discussion, SIV (Serve, Invest, and Invite), and prayer so that each section is meaningful and fruitful.
Week #9: Proverbs 6:30-8:11. The Path of Wisdom vs. The Way of Folly.
1. What themes stand out in this week’s section? Identify key ideas and repeated patterns. What is the focus of this section?
2. What promises does God offer, and what warnings does He give? Look for specific encouragements, blessings, or cautions in the text.
3. How does this speak into our lives today? What are the practical ways we could live this out — individually, in our families, in our community?

5. SIV (Serve, Invest, and Invite)
How might the wisdom in this week's section of Proverbs help us to be a light for Jesus?
Have you had any recent opportunities to Serve, Invest in, or Invite someone toward Jesus? Let’s encourage one another by sharing testimonies of God at work through us.
6. Let’s pray together:
Let’s pray for one another based on our study, and bring before God any other needs or requests for prayer.
Pray for one another's SIV opportunities and boldness in following the Spirit's promptings.
Pray specifically for the 'people of peace' in our lives—asking God to open hearts and provide opportunities to speak life and truth.
