‘Thus you will walk in the ways of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous. For the upright will live in the land, and the blameless will remain in it; but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful will be torn from it.’ (Proverbs 2:20-22)
i. Christians are righteous in Christ
Firstly, we are to understand that to ‘walk in the ways of good and keep to the Paths of the righteous’ means that we listen to God and accept His way of salvation - the gift of righteousness in Christ. This is the first thing to remember - to be righteous, firstly, is about accepting God’s way of salvation which is through faith in Christ alone!
ii. Christians are to seek to live righteously
Added to this gift (imputed righteousness), Christians are called to seek to live a righteous life - a life that is in alignment with God’s will. The New Testament is full of commands to throw off sin and seek to live righteously. We are to seek to be holy and repent of sin. Without this ‘hungering and thirsting for righteousness’, we reveal that we are not ‘born again’.
iii. The righteous will live in the land
We are promised: ‘…For the upright will live in the land, and the blameless will remain in it; but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful will be torn from it.’ To the Jews at this time, this promise would have reminded them of the many times that God promised blessings for obedience and curses and exile from the land for disobedience.
Christians, however, do not have a land as did Israel. For us, the land is the whole world as the gospel goes to the ends of the earth. The Land, for us, represents at least two things:
Firstly, the land is the place of rest - it is rest and salvation in Christ.
Secondly, the land represents our inheriting the good works that God has for us. As we walk righteously with Jesus, we will bear much fruit and bring Him great glory.
Today we’ve seen that those who refuse to listen to foolishness, but listen to God’s wisdom, will be led to Jesus, in whom they bear the fruit of righteousness and are led into the good works of righteousness.
Let’s pray together:
“Father, as you led your people into the Promised Land, so lead me into your rest and into your works. May I glorify Jesus in my trust and in my fruitfulness. Amen.”

Week #3: Proverbs 2:9-3:4. Remember and do my teachings.
1. What themes stand out in this week’s section? Identify key ideas and repeated patterns. What is the focus of this section?
2. What promises does God offer, and what warnings does He give? Look for specific encouragements, blessings, or cautions in the text.
3. How does this speak into our lives today? What are the practical ways we could live this out — individually, in our families, in our community?
4. How is God calling you to respond? Consider what this means for your heart, your choices, and your direction.
5. SIV (Serve, Invest, and Invite)
How might the wisdom in this week's section of Proverbs help us to be a light for Jesus?
Have you had any recent opportunities to Serve, Invest in, or Invite someone toward Jesus? Let’s encourage one another by sharing testimonies of God at work through us.
6. Let’s pray together:
Let’s pray for one another based on our study, and bring before God any other needs or requests for prayer.
Pray for one another's SIV opportunities and boldness in following the Spirit's promptings.
Pray specifically for the 'people of peace' in our lives—asking God to open hearts and provide opportunities to speak life and truth.
