#141 – INVEST IN YOUR HEART (6/7/20)

If you missed Sunday's broadcast, please catch up by following the link below. (For the foreseeable future, we will be running our Sunday morning services digitally. Please go to our website on Sundays at 10:30 to join in)

’It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me.  God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.’ (Philippians 1:7-8)

Paul could say of this church ‘I have you in my heart’. They occupied his ambitions, emotions, thinking and will. This is not a professional, formal or disposable relationship. Paul has the devotion of a father, a husband, a devoted friend.

But how do we get people into our heart? Our hearts are transformed as we invest in our hearts. Here are three ways:

Invest through prayer

Paul was devoted to prayer for this church (1:3-4)

Invest through time

As we read this letter, we can see Paul’s longing to be with them (1:25-26). Being with people regularly builds love.

Invest through thinking theologically

Thinking about the church’s identity: Holy people, in Christ, loved, adopted, God’s workmanship, ‘sharers of God’s grace’… renew our thinking and our hearts (1:1-6).

RESPONSE

Who, specifically are you investing in? Who do you or will you regularly Pray for and invest time in for their encouragement in Jesus?
